Paths to Personal Destinies
Human Life comes with two systems of instructions. One, highly deterministic, is our DNA - providing a nearly inescapable influence over what we often perceive as “destiny.” Another, is basically an Input System comprised of virtually infinite threads of information flows, linked with one another or purely randomized. In both cases, the strongest forces win. We become a mixture of what our DNA confines us to and the multitude of inputs we receive - and assimilate - from external sources and influences.
From society’s perspective, we ought to become a functional component of the whole, but this means that our natural, innate abilities and potential are re-purposed almost from birth to fit the destiny of the society - whatever that may be as the local culture and ideology dictates. While traditionally, this is how things always have been…shouldn’t we wonder if just because things have been set one way or another, does it make it right?
"...In life only you truly know what you want from your existence. Don't ever let things or people drive you to the point where you feel you no longer have control over your own destiny. Be active in choosing your path, or it will be chosen for you..."
~ John Strelecky
(The Cafe on the Edge of the World)
I really like this quote, even though the bestseller it came from falls short of being a truly illuminating or even intellectually arousing book. However, one can study how a mediocre piece of literature served as a perfect instrument for achieving what the quote refers to - and delivered a path for the author’s destiny to unfold upon.
If you wonder how this quote might possibly relate to Movement studies and explorations - the answer is in the quote itself. Movement IS indeed, life. Therefore, our choice of training - and whether we dare to explore beyond one method, style, or school of thought or not - will fundamentally determine the quality of our lives.
As with everything that requires intellectual consumption and digestion, take my thoughts with a grain of salt. Critical thinking will make it taste much better.
